From 1–3 July 2025, the National Audit Office (NAO) Malta is hosting the 23rd Assembly of the INTOSAI Working Group on Environmental Auditing (WGEA). Held under the theme “Auditing Our Blue Planet”, the event focuses on key challenges tied to the marine environment and water scarcity, including drought and drinking water availability.
The Assembly was inaugurated by Mr. Sami Yläoutinen, Auditor General of Finland and WGEA Chair, and Mr. Charles Deguara, Auditor General of Malta. The event brings together 115 delegates from 46 countries.
Hon. Miriam Dalli MP, Minister for the Environment, Energy and Public Cleansing, delivered a keynote address, highlighting Malta’s national perspective on sustainability, climate, and water.

Presentations from SAIs on audit practices
12 interactive workshops on topics such as marine pollution, environmental reporting, and climate-water strategies
On 3 July, the Assembly concludes with a business meeting, launch of the 2026–2028 Work Plan, and handover of the WGEA Chairmanship from Finland to Thailand.
