Starting 1st August, the Malta Labour Migration Policy will begin with 12 new measures designed to create a fairer, more stable employment environment.
During a visit to PANINA, a growing local food business in Santa Venera, Prime Minister Robert Abela stressed that economic success must continue to serve Maltese and Gozitan families. He commended the company’s expansion and employment model, which includes both local and foreign workers based on need.
Dr Abela, joined by Minister Byron Camilleri, announced that the new policy will back fair employers while protecting workers' rights. One key reform will block employers from replacing unfairly dismissed workers with new third-country nationals. Another will double the hiring fee for foreign workers.
He described the Labour Migration Policy as ambitious but necessary, reaffirming the Government's commitment to “Maltin l-ewwel” (Maltese first).
