Protest in Valletta in Solidarity with the Global Sumud Flotilla: Calls to Break the Siege on Gaza
Valletta, Thursday 2 October 2025 – Crowds gathered in front of Parliament Square this evening in a powerful demonstration of solidarity with the Global Sumud Flotilla, which was intercepted last night by Israeli Occupation Forces as it sailed towards Gaza carrying humanitarian aid.
Dozens of Maltese citizens, activists, and international supporters joined the protest, waving Palestinian flags and holding placards declaring “Let’s Stay Human,” “Stop the Genocide,” and “Free Palestine.”
Organizers described the gathering as an urgent appeal for civil society to act, demanding that humanitarian aid be allowed to reach Gaza’s besieged population and calling for an end to the ongoing blockade.
“The people of Gaza are being bombed relentlessly. Every day the death toll rises, yet the world watches in silence. Malta must take a stand and demand that humanitarian aid reaches Gaza,” said one of the speakers addressing the crowd.
The Global Sumud Flotilla set out with the aim of breaking the long-standing siege on Gaza and delivering essential relief to Palestinians trapped under bombardment. Its interception has sparked international condemnation, with activists insisting that blocking aid to civilians constitutes a grave violation of human rights.
The demonstration in Valletta brought together Maltese civil society groups alongside international activists, underscoring the global nature of solidarity with Palestine. The crowd chanted for freedom and justice, urging the Maltese government to join international calls to end the blockade.
The rally concluded with a resounding message:
“Break the siege. Free Palestine. Let Gaza live. - eta theke
