Valletta, 9 October 2025 – Prime Minister Robert Abela reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening Malta’s healthcare system through continued investment in human resources, infrastructure, and services.
During a consultation meeting with representatives from the Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses (MUMN) on the upcoming Budget 2026, Dr Abela emphasised the importance of maintaining a high-quality healthcare service built on dialogue and collaboration.
He noted that nurses and midwives are benefiting from a collective agreement offering improved working conditions and that the Government remains determined to further enhance both physical and mental health services.
The Prime Minister highlighted recent improvements in primary healthcare, including the launch of the Ċensu Moran Health Centre, offering extended services such as podiatry, physiotherapy, and respiratory medicine. He also mentioned the success of the new non-emergency health telephone service aimed at easing pressure on Mater Dei Hospital.
Dr Abela was accompanied by Minister Jo Etienne Abela, Parliamentary Secretaries Andy Ellul, Malcolm Paul Agius Galea, and Rebecca Buttigieg, as well as MPs Chris Fearne, Michael Farrugia, and Romilda Zarb.
