Successful 'Pet Day' event brings together families and their pets

The 'Pet Day' event, organised as part of ongoing efforts to raise awareness about animal rights and welfare, was successfully held as hundreds of families attended with their pets for a day full of activities and entertainment in Valletta.

During Saturday, attendees could enjoy a number of educational and interactive activities. The event also offered a space where families could spend quality time with their animals, while learning more about proper animal care and protection. A new national record was also set for the largest number of different pets in one place within a 6-hour timeframe, with a total of 345 pets.

Parliamentary Secretary for Fisheries, Aquaculture and Animal Rights, Alicia Bugeja Said, stated that "This activity clearly shows how much interest and love for animals there is in our society. Through initiatives like these, we are continuing to strengthen the message about the need for care and responsibility towards all animals."

The Commissioner for Animal Welfare, Dr Fleur Abela, emphasized that "Events like 'Pet Day' are important to get closer to the community and continue raising awareness about animal welfare. It is important to continue encouraging a culture where animals are treated with dignity."

For his part, the Mayor of Valletta, Olaf McKay, said that "The activity was a beautiful opportunity for the community to come together in a positive and inclusive environment. It was very satisfying to see so many families participating and enjoying this experience together with their pets."

The organizers thanked everyone who attended and contributed to this activity, while remaining committed to continuing to organise similar initiatives in the future to further promote animal welfare in society.
