Bomb squad summoned due to discovery of 'small device' outside PL HQ.

An explosives team was summoned to the Labour Party headquarters around 8 am on Thursday after security personnel noticed "a small device" on the ground outside the Ħamrun building. Meanwhile, neighbors reported hearing "a small explosion" from a dustbin outside the headquarters around 2 am.

Although there were no injuries, individuals inside the building were evacuated on Thursday morning. A significant police presence surrounds the building, with the road closed off.

PL president Ramona Attard mentioned hearing a small explosion early Thursday and confirmed the evacuation, stating, "We are remaining calm and allowing the police and the AFM bomb squad to conduct their investigation."

Prime Minister Robert Abela acknowledged the small explosion on Facebook, urging for calm. Bernard Grech and the Nationalist Party expressed solidarity with the PL, offering support to Abela and condemning the act. They hoped for the perpetrators to be apprehended.

The party also requested police to thoroughly search the surrounding area of the PN headquarters due to the "risk of similar action." Magistrate Ian Farrugia has initiated an inquiry into the explosion.
