The Ambassador of Switzerland, Manuela Elisabeth Leimgruber, presented her Letters of Credence to President Myriam Spiteri Debono at the Presidential Palace, Valletta.

President Spiteri Debono expressed her appreciation for the fruitful bilateral relationship between Malta and Switzerland. She underscored the shared value of neutrality, while highlighting both countries' commitment towards conflict resolution and peace. As both Malta and Switzerland share common priorities and objectives in their coinciding mandates on the UN Security Council, including the theme of Gender Equality, Peace and Security, President Spiteri Debono emphasised the role women play in conflict resolution and the achievement of peace. As such, she underlined the necessity for women to continue fighting for their rights, especially in areas where basic rights for women are not yet guaranteed.

The Ambassador praised the strong relationship between Malta and Switzerland, noting with appreciation the role Malta played in the resolution of conflict, such as through the Ukraine Peace Process summit held in Malta in October 2023. She applauded President Spiteri Debono for her stance in favour of rights for women, while also expressing the likeminded position of both countries on the matter. The Ambassador pointed out that the basis of the relationship between Malta and Switzerland is founded on strong cooperation. She expressed her hope that there will be further cooperation between the two countries on issues of common concern, such as health, research, and education, through joint initiatives.
