Mexico on the Brink of Electing First Female President

Mexican voters are on the verge of electing the country's first female president as election results are awaited from yesterday's vote. 

The two leading candidates are both women: Claudia Sheinbaum, a climate scientist from the ruling party of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and Xóchitl Gálvez, a businesswoman representing a coalition of opposition parties. This historic election highlights the significant progress women have made in Mexican politics, considering they were not granted the right to vote until 1953.
