Israel Ran Covert Campaign to Sway U.S. Opinion on Gaza Conflict

A Times investigation has revealed that Israel organized and funded a covert campaign last year, employing fake social media accounts and news sites to persuade U.S. lawmakers to support the war in Gaza. This clandestine effort highlights the lengths Israel is willing to go to influence American public opinion.

The campaign, which began in October and is still active on X, utilized hundreds of fake accounts posing as real Americans to disseminate pro-Israel comments. Despite the U.S. being a long-time ally of Israel, the Gaza war has been unpopular among many Americans, leading to calls for President Biden to withdraw support for Israel due to increasing civilian casualties.
