Global Heat Likely to Break Records by 2028, U.N. Warns

The U.N. weather agency announced today that Earth is already experiencing some of its highest temperatures in 100,000 years and there is nearly a 90 percent chance that the planet will set another record for its warmest year by 2028.

Furthermore, the agency indicated that there is a significant likelihood that, between now and 2028, the average global temperature will rise by 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial levels. This threshold was set under the 2015 Paris Agreement as the limit to avoid the most catastrophic impacts of climate change.
