Malta votes today for EP and LC elections

Malta votes today to elect six members of the European Parliament and over 540 councilors across 68 towns and villages in Malta and Gozo.

Voting began at 7am and will continue till 10pm tonight. Counting of the EP elections votes is expected to start tomorrow at 9am at the Counting Complex in Naxxar. Counting for Local Council elections will take place over three days next week.

For the MEP Elections there are:

Eligible voters: 332,967

and for Local Council Elections:

Eligible voters 346,692

This is due to the fact that 37,200 voting documents for the MEP Elections were not collected while just over 110,000 voting documents for Local Council Elections were not collected.

So far polls have predicted a relatively easy victory for the Partit Laburista with an advantage of anything between 24,000 and 27,000 votes based on a turnout of 69%. Independent candidates are expected to poll between 7 and 9%.
