Environmental Health Directorate Notice

According to the Bathing Water Directive, the Environmental Health Directorate within the Superintendence of Public Health wishes to notify the public that bathing is not recommended at St George’s Bay, Birżebbuġa, until further notice. This advisory is due to sewage overflow affecting the bathing water quality, posing potential health risks to bathers.

The contamination was identified as stemming from a drainage blockage originating from a public toilet. Immediate action was taken by the Water Services Corporation (WSC) to rectify the issue and stop the sewage overflow. Currently, tests are underway to assess when the beach can safely reopen for swimming.

Details:

Signage indicating the affected area has been placed for public awareness. The signs will be removed once water quality is restored, accompanied by another press release notifying the public of the site's suitability for bathing.
