Macron Ends His Silence Amid Political Uncertainty

President Emmanuel Macron of France broke his silence today with a letter to the French people, acknowledging that it will take "a little time" to build a "broad gathering" of "republican forces" to form a coalition government.

Macron commented that "nobody won" the recent legislative elections, a statement likely to aggravate the New Popular Front, a revitalized left-wing alliance that secured about 180 seats in the National Assembly. The New Popular Front has announced plans to nominate its candidate for prime minister this week, a choice Macron is almost certain to reject, potentially leading to a significant confrontation with the left.

Experts interpret the recent elections in Britain and France not as a resurgence of the left but as a sign of growing political polarization across Europe.
