Calls Grow for Biden to Drop Out of Presidential Race

President Joe Biden is under mounting pressure to step aside as Democratic leaders express concerns about his chances against Donald Trump in the upcoming November election. Nancy Pelosi, former Speaker of the House, voiced her worries on a news show, stating that "time is running short" for Biden to reconsider his candidacy. Pelosi added that she would support Biden "whatever he decides." Other Democratic lawmakers, such as Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia, have echoed her sentiments, emphasizing Biden's history of prioritizing the nation's needs over his political ambitions.

The number of explicit calls for Biden to withdraw is also rising. Senator Peter Welch of Vermont became the first Democratic senator to publicly urge the president to step down, and Representative Pat Ryan of New York is now the eighth member of Congress to do so.

In response, Biden has attempted to quell dissent by criticizing the Democratic "elites" who he believes have turned against him, as reported by my colleague Peter Baker.

Even Hollywood has weighed in, with George Clooney, who hosted a $28 million fundraiser for Biden last month, urging the president to step aside in a Times opinion essay. Clooney noted that he had witnessed Biden's decline firsthand, stating, "The one battle he cannot win is the fight against time."
