Following nationwide violence due to the ongoing movement
over quota reforms, the government has decided to impose a curfew across the
country and deploy the army. Which is an emergency situation because the student movement getting as national movement
.
The decision was made at a meeting of the 14-party alliance
at Ganabhaban( residence of Prime minister ) on Friday night, confirmed by Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina's Press Secretary, Naimul Islam Khan.
He told that after
the meeting of the 14-party alliance, the Law Minister and the Home Minister
were instructed to take necessary measures to implement the decision. He also
mentioned that related orders would be issued shortly.
He further stated that the army would assist the civil
administration in areas across the country where there is a risk of conflict
and violence.
Regarding the Curfew, Obaidul Quader ( The secretary of Ruling
Party Awami League )
In a press briefing in front of Ganabhaban ( Prime Minister
Residence) following the meeting with
the top leaders of the 14-party alliance and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said, "The government has
decided to impose a curfew due to the situation arising across the
country."
He mentioned that despite accepting the legitimate demands
of the protesters, violence is still being carried out. The government remains
vigilant to prevent anyone from exploiting the quota movement for political
gains.

Nahid Hossain, one of the co-ordinators of the
Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, commented that the government is
deploying the army to suppress the public further.
He urged the people of the country to stand with the
students instead of supporting the government. Also the international communities start supporting
our movement , we are more confident .
When asked by BBC Bangla how they would continue their
program under curfew, Mr. Hossain said that they had announced their program
before the curfew was imposed, so they believe that the public will participate
spontaneously.
