Israel Expands Evacuation Orders in Southern Gaza

The Israeli military has expanded evacuation orders for civilians in Khan Younis, a city in southwestern Gaza, citing the need to conduct operations against what it describes as embedded Hamas infrastructure in the area. The military has redrawn the boundaries of the humanitarian zone, advising residents to relocate to what are designated as safe zones. However, many Gazans report that there are no truly safe areas within the enclave.

The escalation comes a day after an Israeli airstrike hit a school that had been turned into a shelter, killing over 90 people among the more than 2,000 displaced individuals taking refuge there. The Israeli military claimed that the shelter was being used by Hamas and another armed Palestinian group for military operations. U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris condemned the civilian casualties, stating that "far too many civilians" have lost their lives in Gaza.
