Ukraine Launches Bold Offensive into Russian Territory

On August 6, Ukraine executed a daring and covert military offensive, aiming to turn the tide in a conflict that had seemed increasingly unfavorable. The operation, which took many of Kyiv’s allies, including the U.S., by surprise, has pushed the boundaries of Western military equipment usage within Russian borders.

Ukraine has advanced seven miles into Russian territory along a 25-mile front and captured dozens of Russian soldiers. According to Russian officials, Ukraine now controls 28 towns and villages in the Kursk region. In response, more than 132,000 people have been evacuated from affected areas.

This unexpected move has rattled Russia and raised questions about the longstanding unwritten agreement that allowed most Russians to continue their daily lives while President Vladimir Putin pursued the war effort.
