Ukraine Claims Capture of Russian Town Amid Drone Assault on Airfields

President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine announced that Ukrainian forces have taken full control of the Russian town of Sudzha, marking the first time Ukraine has captured a Russian town since its incursion began 10 days ago. If verified, this would be a significant milestone in the ongoing conflict.

Ukrainian state television aired footage from Sudzha, showing soldiers removing a Russian flag from a building. In a further escalation, Ukraine reported launching a large-scale drone attack on military airfields deep within Russia, reportedly damaging at least two of them.

Russia’s Defense Ministry confirmed that Ukraine had deployed 117 drones targeting several regions, including the airfields. Satellite images verified by The Times revealed damage to air bases in Savasleyka and Borisoglebsk, both located over 200 kilometers (about 125 miles) inside Russian territory. However, it remains unclear whether any aircraft were affected.
