CEO of Boat Manufacturer Defends 'Unsinkable' Yacht After Tragic Sinking

Giovanni Costantino, CEO of The Italian Sea Group, has defended the design and construction of the Bayesian superyacht, which sank off the coast of Porticello, Sicily, during a violent storm. Costantino, whose company owns the firm that built the yacht, described vessels like the Bayesian as "unsinkable" and emphasized their reputation for safety.

The sinking of the yacht, which belonged to British tech tycoon Mike Lynch, has left six people confirmed dead after divers recovered five bodies on Wednesday. The yacht was carrying 22 people, 15 of whom were rescued, including British citizen Charlotte Golunski and her one-year-old daughter.

Costantino expressed disbelief over the incident, stating that such vessels are designed with a structure and keel that make them "unsinkable bodies." He said, "This incident sounds like an unbelievable story, both technically and as a fact."

Italian prosecutors are continuing their investigation, interviewing survivors, including the yacht's captain, and conducting technical assessments. Four British inspectors are also involved in examining the yacht's design, stability, and the effects of the severe weather conditions that led to the sinking.
