Health officials in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the epicenter of the ongoing mpox outbreak, report that they lack even the most basic tools needed to contain the virus. The country is struggling to diagnose cases effectively and is still waiting for vaccines, which remain stalled in a complex regulatory process at the World Health Organization (W.H.O.).
The virus has claimed nearly 600 lives across Africa and has left many more suffering from painful lesions that make daily activities like walking, eating, and even breathing difficult.
