The U.S. Coast Guard has launched two weeks of hearings to investigate the catastrophic implosion of the Titan submersible, which resulted in the deaths of all five passengers during a dive to the Titanic wreck last year.
Testimonies revealed that the company behind the Titan had been grappling with ongoing equipment issues for years leading up to the disaster. A former engineering director was even dismissed after refusing to authorize a deep-sea expedition.
Further reports highlighted that the Titan had faced significant operational challenges, with 70 equipment malfunctions reported in 2021 and 48 additional issues recorded in 2022.
