Hezbollah Leader Hassan Nasrallah Killed in Israeli Airstrike on Beirut

Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, one of Israel's most formidable enemies, was killed in a massive Israeli airstrike on Beirut, confirmed by both Hezbollah and Israeli authorities. The strike, which took place on Friday, targeted Hezbollah's stronghold in the Dahiyeh neighborhood of Beirut. Among the dead were other high-ranking officials, including the commander of Hezbollah's southern front and the deputy commander of Iran's Revolutionary Guards.

The operation, approved by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu while he was in the U.S., led to the collapse of several buildings believed to house Hezbollah's command center. Estimates suggest that around 300 people were killed in the attack. Following the strike, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was moved to a secure location as tensions rise across the region.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned that the actions taken in the coming days will have long-lasting consequences for the region. President Biden described the assassination as justice for Nasrallah's victims, but denied prior U.S. knowledge of the strike. Hezbollah and its allies, including Iran and Hamas, have vowed retaliation, with rocket fire intensifying from Lebanon into northern Israel.
