In the second quarter of 2024, 96,115 non-EU citizens were ordered to leave EU countries, with 25,285 of them returning to third countries following an official order. This marks a 7% decrease in orders to leave compared to the first quarter of 2024, while returns dropped by 3.9%. However, compared to Q2 2023, returns saw a significant 21.3% rise, even as the number of leave orders fell by 10%.
Algerian and Moroccan nationals made up the largest share of non-EU citizens ordered to leave, each accounting for 7% of the total. Georgian citizens led the number of returns at 10%, followed by Albanians (8%) and Turkish nationals (7%).
France recorded the highest number of orders to leave, with 31,195 cases, followed by Germany and Greece. France also topped the list of returns to third countries, along with Germany and Sweden.
