Narrow Victory for Pro-Europe Moldovans in Referendum

A closely contested referendum in Moldova, which sought to amend the Constitution to solidify the country's alignment with Europe, narrowly passed with 50.46 percent of voters in favor. The result, watched closely by Russia, the European Union, and the U.S., reflects Moldova's deep political divide, similar to other former Soviet states.

With nearly all votes counted, the amendments will enshrine Moldova’s commitment to the “irreversibility” of its European path, including a future bid for EU membership.
