Jesuit Novitiate Across Europe and the Near East

This autumn, 30 young men have embarked on a profound journey of faith and service as novices within the Jesuit Conference of Europe and the Near East (JCEP). Each of these novices represents the culmination of a deeply personal and spiritual discernment process, guided by Vocation Promotors and other dedicated Jesuits in their respective provinces.

The Jesuit Novitiate is a transformative two-year program designed to lay the foundation for a life of religious and apostolic service. This formative period focuses on three key areas: fostering a personal and deep relationship with Jesus Christ, developing self-awareness and an understanding of the Society of Jesus, and embracing the joys and challenges of living in community.

A hallmark of the Novitiate experience is the series of “experiments” that have been integral to Jesuit formation since the Society's founding. These include undertaking the Spiritual Exercises in a month-long retreat, engaging in hands-on service to the sick and impoverished, and embarking on a pilgrimage—each offering a unique opportunity for growth, reflection, and encountering God in new ways.

The 30 new novices will join 19 of their companions who are beginning their second year of the Novitiate. Together, these 49 men form a vibrant community committed to exploring the Jesuit calling and preparing for a life dedicated to service, faith, and justice.

The Jesuit Conference extends a warm invitation to keep these novices in your prayers. Special prayers are also encouraged for those discerning a similar path, as they consider embracing the Jesuit vocation and its mission to find God in all things.

For those curious about the process of becoming a Jesuit, resources and guidance are available on the Jesuit Conference's website, offering insights into this life of faith and purpose.

As these novices embark on their formation journey, their dedication and courage inspire us to reflect on our own call to live lives of meaning and service.
