Valletta, 9 October 2025 – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism Ian Borg announced the Working Holiday for Youths of Maltese Descent Scheme, giving young people of Maltese heritage aged 18–30 the opportunity to visit Malta for work or study while exploring their roots.

The scheme, launching in January 2026, will make it easier for Maltese descendants to gain valuable experience and connect with their families in Malta.

Dr Borg announced the initiative during the 17th Annual Meeting of the Council for the Maltese Living Abroad, the first since the Council’s expansion to 21 members for fairer representation.

He thanked long-serving members for their contribution and welcomed new appointees, highlighting the importance of collaboration and maintaining strong links with the Maltese diaspora.

The Deputy Prime Minister also noted new initiatives promoting the Maltese language, including 10 new libraries at Maltese missions worldwide and an online summer course in Maltese as a foreign language.
