From 1 January 2026, smoking will be prohibited on Ramla tal-Mixquqa (Golden Bay) and Ramla l-Ħamra, except in clearly designated smoking areas within the beaches.

The measure forms part of a cleaner beaches initiative aimed at reducing cigarette litter and protecting marine ecosystems. Signage will be placed at beach entrances, while smoking zones will be clearly marked and equipped with waste containers.

Enforcement will be carried out by the Malta Police Force, Local Enforcement Systems Agency, and officials from the Environment and Resources Authority, the Environmental Health Directorate, and the Malta Tourism Authority.

Anyone caught smoking in prohibited areas will be fined €150, with no warnings issued.
