Biden and Harris Welcome Americans Freed from Russian Custody

President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris welcomed home Americans, including Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, who had been released from Russian custody. The emotional reunion took place last night at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland. “Their brutal ordeal is over, and they’re free,” Biden declared earlier in the day.

The Americans' release came after complex negotiations involving seven countries, marking a significant diplomatic achievement for Biden, who has consistently vowed to bring imprisoned Americans back home. In total, sixteen individuals were released by Russia, while the West freed eight in exchange.

Gershkovich's family expressed gratitude to Biden and other officials for securing his release after 16 months in a Russian prison. Upon arrival at the air base, Gershkovich, after speaking with Biden and Harris, embraced a family member, lifting her into the air in a joyful reunion.
