Violence in the West Bank surged yesterday after a gunman killed three Israelis at a border crossing with Jordan, according to the Israeli military. The shooting comes amid rising tensions since the Hamas-led Oct. 7 attack on Israel, which triggered the ongoing war in Gaza.
The victims, forklift operators working at the crossing, were killed before Israeli forces fatally shot the gunman. The incident follows the killing of a dual U.S.-Turkish citizen during a protest on Friday and the death of a 13-year-old Palestinian girl caught in violent clashes. The U.N. reports that more than 600 people have been killed in the West Bank since October, marking the deadliest period in years.
