Three Students Deny Drug Trafficking Charges, Remanded in Custody
Three foreign students were remanded in custody on Monday after pleading not guilty to drug trafficking charges following the discovery of cannabis allegedly intended for distribution.
The accused — a Serbian national, an Indian national, and a French national — were arrested last week after police acted on a tip-off linking suspicious activity to a Telegram group. Subsequent investigations led officers to an apartment in Sliema, where approximately 600 grams of cannabis were found, packed in individual packets.
The prosecution told the court that the drugs were believed to be prepared for trafficking.
The three individuals, all residing in Malta on student visas, were arraigned before a magistrate on Monday morning. They each entered a not guilty plea. The court denied bail, citing the risk of flight, the potential for evidence tampering, and the ongoing nature of the investigations.
Police sources confirmed that the investigation remains active, with further inquiries focusing on digital evidence seized during the search. Additional arrests have not been ruled out at this stage.
The students have been remanded in custody as proceedings continue.
