England’s NHS in Crisis, Report Finds

England’s National Health Service (NHS) is in a critical state, according to a new government-commissioned report. The review revealed major issues, including long waiting times for treatment, deteriorating hospital conditions, and severe shortages of medical equipment like M.R.I. scanners. Some mental health patients were found to be housed in vermin-infested cells.

The report linked the NHS’s decline to austerity measures from the 2010s, which left the health service starved of resources. The findings come after Prime Minister Keir Starmer's Labour Party won the general election, with many voters citing the NHS's dire state as a major reason for their support. Starmer has promised a 10-year plan to revitalize the NHS, calling it the biggest transformation of the system since its inception in 1948.
