Titan Submersible Investigation Reveals Years of Issues
The U.S. Coast Guard has begun hearings to investigate last year’s fatal implosion of the Titan submersible during an expedition to the Titanic wreck. The disaster claimed the lives of all five people aboard.
Testimony revealed that the company had struggled with numerous equipment issues in the years leading up to the incident. A former engineering director was reportedly dismissed after refusing to approve a deepwater mission. Additionally, the Titan submersible had encountered over 100 equipment malfunctions in the two years before the tragedy, with 70 problems reported in 2021 and 48 more in 2022.
