Israeli airstrikes have killed nearly 500 people in Lebanon, including dozens of women and children, according to Lebanon’s health ministry. Over 1,000 others were injured in what is being described as the deadliest day of Israeli attacks since the 2006 war with Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed militant group.
Israel's military reported striking around 1,600 Hezbollah targets in Lebanon in an attempt to weaken the group’s position. These strikes come after last week's covert operations that destroyed Hezbollah communication systems and left 37 members dead. Despite the extensive bombing campaign, Hezbollah has shown no sign of retreating from the Lebanon-Israel border.
In response, Hezbollah launched a series of rockets and missiles into Israel, though most were intercepted by Israel's antimissile defense systems. Hezbollah leaders stated they will continue their attacks until Israel and Hamas agree to a cease-fire in Gaza, signaling no end to the violence in the near future.
