Unsafe slime toys recalled from the market

The MCCAA would like to inform the public about the dangers of three slime toys, identified by the following product details:

Unicorn Slime (Model No. 13260, Bar Code: 5905323214620) – refer to picture 1

Putty Slime (Model No. 13261, Bar Code: 5905323214637) – refer to picture 2

Slime Crystal (Model No. CC10134, Bar Code: 5356918101342) – refer to picture 3

These products are being recalled from the market as they do not comply with the Toy Safety Directive and the applicable European standards. Laboratory tests have revealed that the toys contain high levels of boron, a chemical that, in excessive amounts, can pose significant health risks to children. Ingestion or prolonged contact with boron can lead to serious health concerns, including damage to the reproductive system. The tests were part of an EU Commission’s project named CASP (Coordinated Activities on the Safety of Products), where each participating Member State, including Malta, tested slime toys for dangerous chemicals.

As a result, the MCCAA has taken appropriate steps to ensure that these products are removed from the local market with immediate effect. Consumers who have purchased any of the above-mentioned products should refrain from using them and, if possible, return them to the retailer where they were purchased. Retailers are obliged to either replace the non-compliant product or, if replacement is not possible, offer a full refund.

Consumers are reminded to check the Safety Gate platform at the following link: https://ec.europa.eu/safety-gate-alerts/screen/webReport before purchasing products to ensure they are not buying recalled items.
