Israeli authorities have launched an investigation into a suspected leak of classified documents from the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. A civilian employee, Eliezer Feldstein, who was hired last year as a spokesperson in Netanyahu’s office, is accused of illegally obtaining sensitive information and providing it to the news media. The documents reportedly supported Netanyahu’s position on implementing stricter terms for a potential cease-fire with Hamas earlier this year, despite public pressure for a swift deal to release Israeli hostages and halt the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
The Israeli court has also implicated three unidentified military and security personnel in connection with the case, though they remain unnamed. On Sunday, a partial lifting of the court’s gag order allowed for Feldstein’s identification, further fueling public discourse.
Critics argue that the leaks may be part of a calculated disinformation campaign by Netanyahu or his allies, aimed at swaying public opinion against efforts for a cease-fire. The Prime Minister has not been formally questioned regarding these allegations.
