Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned Hamas that if it fails to release hostages as scheduled on Saturday, Israeli troops will resume "intense fighting" in Gaza. Hamas had announced on Monday that it would indefinitely delay the hostage release, accusing Israel of violating the cease-fire agreement.
Netanyahu also reaffirmed his directive to reinforce Israeli forces in and around Gaza, though he did not specify plans to recapture territory. “This operation is currently underway,” he said. “It will be completed as soon as possible.”
Meanwhile, former U.S. President Donald Trump, in a White House meeting with King Abdullah II of Jordan, reiterated his stance that the U.S. will ‘take’ Gaza and suggested that neighboring countries absorb the Palestinian population. Trump has also threatened to cut U.S. aid to Egypt and Jordan if they refuse. In response, King Abdullah reaffirmed Jordan’s firm opposition to the displacement of Palestinians in a social media post.
