A 23-year-old Syrian asylum seeker carried out a fatal knife attack in Villach, Austria, on Saturday, killing a teenager and injuring five others, according to Austrian authorities. Officials confirmed that the attacker was inspired by the Islamic State (ISIS).
The suspect arrived in Austria from Syria in 2020 and was later granted asylum, the Interior Ministry reported. Police believe the victims were chosen at random. The assailant has been detained, and authorities are investigating potential connections to extremist networks.
