President Trump met with French President Emmanuel Macron at the White House yesterday, marking three years since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The two leaders expressed starkly different views on the war’s origins, the roles of each side, and potential resolutions.
Trump claimed the conflict could end “within weeks” and hinted at a possible visit to Moscow as early as spring. He declined to label Russian President Vladimir Putin a dictator, while Macron firmly asserted that “Russia is the aggressor.”
At the United Nations, the U.S. opposed a European-led resolution condemning Russia and demanding an immediate withdrawal from Ukraine. Instead, the Trump administration introduced a softer resolution calling only for an end to the war, aligning more closely with Moscow than traditional Western allies.
