Ukraine has agreed to transfer revenue from some of its mineral resources to the United States, according to American and Ukrainian officials. The deal follows a period of intense pressure from President Trump.
Details regarding what Ukraine might receive in return remain unclear. President Volodymyr Zelensky had previously rejected at least one draft agreement, citing the absence of specific U.S. security guarantees and Trump’s demand for mineral rights valued at $500 billion. Some of the more restrictive conditions have reportedly been removed.
A U.S. official confirmed that a final translated draft of the agreement was sent to Ukraine yesterday. The deal is expected to be signed first by the U.S. Treasury secretary and his Ukrainian counterpart before being finalized by Trump and Zelensky in Washington.
