Arab leaders gathered in Cairo yesterday for an emergency summit, where they endorsed an Egyptian proposal outlining Gaza’s postwar future. The plan, presented as a response to President Trump’s controversial call to “clear out” the enclave and transform it into the “Riviera of the Middle East,” focuses on reconstruction and governance.
The Egyptian initiative includes a $53 billion investment to rebuild Gaza while ensuring that residents remain in place. It envisions a temporary administration led by technocrats and individuals unaffiliated with Hamas. However, the absence of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates from the summit raised questions about the level of unified Arab backing for the plan.
