Rubio: Ukraine Must Make Concessions in Peace Talks

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Ukraine would need to cede some of the territory occupied by Russia since 2014 as part of any agreement to end the ongoing war. Speaking to reporters aboard his flight to Saudi Arabia, where he is set to hold discussions with senior Ukrainian officials, Rubio emphasized the need for difficult compromises. “The most important thing that we have to leave here with is a strong sense that Ukraine is prepared to do difficult things,” he said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also traveled to Saudi Arabia, meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who has positioned himself as a mediator between Ukraine and Russia. The Saudi leader has played a growing role in diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict.

Meanwhile, Zelensky’s recent meeting with President Trump at the White House, which was marked by tense exchanges, has unexpectedly boosted his approval rating at home, providing a temporary reprieve from domestic criticism.
