In April 2024, seasonally adjusted industrial production saw a slight decline of 0.1% in the euro area while increasing by 0.5% across the EU, as per initial estimates from Eurostat. This followed a 0.5% growth in the euro area and stable output in the EU in March 2024.


Comparing year-on-year data, industrial production in April 2024 fell by 3.0% in the euro area and by 2.0% in the EU compared to April 2023.

In the euro area, the month-on-month changes for April 2024 were:

- Intermediate goods: -0.4%

- Energy: +0.4%

- Capital goods: +0.7%

- Durable consumer goods: +0.3%

- Non-durable consumer goods: +3.4%


In the EU, the monthly changes were:

- Intermediate goods: -0.2%

- Energy: +0.3%

- Capital goods: +0.5%

- Durable consumer goods: +1.0%

- Non-durable consumer goods: +3.9%

The highest monthly increases were in:

- Denmark: +10.4%

- Greece: +7.0%

- Poland: +6.7%


The largest monthly decreases were in:

- Luxembourg: -6.7%

- Latvia: -4.9%

- Ireland: -3.4%

Comparing April 2024 to April 2023 in the euro area:

- Intermediate goods: -2.0%

- Energy: -1.1%

- Capital goods: -5.3%

- Durable consumer goods: -3.1%

- Non-durable consumer goods: +0.7%


In the EU, the annual changes were:

- Intermediate goods: -1.8%

- Energy: -0.9%

- Capital goods: -4.9%

- Durable consumer goods: -2.1%

- Non-durable consumer goods: +2.9%
