Leaders Push for 'Final' Gaza Truce Proposal

President Biden, along with the leaders of Egypt and Qatar, announced their readiness to present a “final” cease-fire proposal to end the ongoing conflict in Gaza and secure the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian detainees. They urged both Israel and Hamas to return to the negotiating table in Cairo or Doha, Qatar, next week to finalize the agreement.

The cease-fire negotiations had stalled after a meeting in Cairo last weekend failed to produce a breakthrough, further complicated by the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, Hamas’s political leader, who had been spearheading negotiations through intermediaries.

“There is no further time to waste nor excuses from any party for further delay,” Biden, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani stated. “It is time to release the hostages, begin the cease-fire, and implement this agreement.”
