Israeli airstrikes in Syria have killed Iranian General Saeed Abyar, who was there as an adviser, according to Iranian media. This incident marks the first Iranian casualty caused by Israel since the countries nearly went to war in April following an Israeli bombing of Iran’s embassy compound in Syria.
General Abyar was a member of the Quds Force, a branch of the Revolutionary Guards. Despite Iran’s current leadership crisis after the president's death last month, a new wave of attacks on Israel seems unlikely.
