Ukraine Intensifies Incursion into Russia, Destroys Key Bridge in Kursk Region

Ukraine's ongoing incursion into Russia has entered its second week, with Ukrainian forces successfully destroying a crucial bridge in the Kursk region of western Russia. Analysts suggest that this action signals Ukraine's commitment to a prolonged conflict in the area.

The destruction of the bridge is expected to complicate Russia’s efforts to respond to the offensive, which has already led to the displacement of over 130,000 people, according to Russian authorities. Many of the displaced have sought refuge in the city of Kursk. “Probably there will be nothing to return to,” lamented Alesya Torba, 41, whose daughter gave birth just a day before the evacuation.

The offensive has sparked a range of reactions in Russia. While some citizens expressed anger toward Ukraine, others directed their frustration at Russia’s state-run media and the Defense Ministry. Reports indicate that the border was inadequately defended, with young conscripted soldiers describing instances of surrender or retreat.
