However, his government has withheld the full election results, leading to accusations of electoral fraud. Numerous countries, including the United States, have condemned the election, citing extensive irregularities.
Both government and opposition leaders have urged their supporters to take to the streets. The resulting demonstrations have led to deadly clashes, with violence continuing into yesterday.
