The euro area’s unemployment rate remained steady at 6.4% in August 2024, reflecting continued stability in the labor market. This is a slight improvement from August 2023, when the rate was 6.6%. The overall EU unemployment rate also saw a marginal decline to 5.9%. Youth unemployment across the EU decreased slightly to 14.3%, with 2.77 million young people still seeking work.
Women’s unemployment rates remained higher than men’s, with 6.1% of women unemployed across the EU compared to 5.7% for men. As the euro area continues to recover from economic challenges, these figures show positive, albeit slow, progress in employment.
