In 2023, EU residents made 1.14 billion tourism trips, marking a 5.7% increase compared to 2022. Of these trips, 90% were for personal reasons, with professional travel also seeing a rise. Domestic tourism remained the most popular, accounting for 73% of trips. European tourists spent an average of €97.6 per night, up by 11.8% from 2022. Luxembourg residents spent the most per night, while tourists from Greece, Poland, and Czechia spent the least. Overall, tourism expenditure reached an estimated €553 billion in 2023, a significant boost to Europe’s travel economy.
