Official Visit by the European Court of Auditors' President, Mr Tony Murphy, to the National Audit Office (Malta)

Today, Mr Tony Murphy, President of the European Court of Auditors (ECA), accompanied by Dr George-Marius Hyzler, ECA Member, visited the National Audit Office (NAO). They were warmly received by Mr Charles Deguara, Auditor General, and Mr Noel Camilleri, Deputy Auditor General. Other members of a delegation from the ECA, accompanying Mr Murphy on this visit, are Mr Wolfgang Stolz, Head of Cabinet, Ms Annette Farrugia, Attachè and Dr Nikola Soukmandjiev, Member of Cabinet.

During a meeting with the NAO's senior management team, Mr Murphy highlighted the objectives and mission of the ECA whilst appreciating the excellent working relationship between the two audit institutions. On his part, Mr Deguara emphasised his Office's commitment to enhance even further such collaboration, particularly through the annual NAO-ECA Joint Seminars, as well as other bilateral initiatives focusing on issues related to public sector auditing.  Discussions centred also on various audit activities and assignments conducted by both the NAO and the ECA, highlighting potential collaborative efforts in the Contact Committee that brings together the supreme audit institutions of the EU.

Following the meeting at the NAO, Mr Murphy delivered a lecture at the University of Malta, detailing the ECA's role and activities to an audience of lecturers, academics and NAO senior officials. The visit was followed by Mr Murphy's site visit of two EU co-funded major projects, related to the educational and historical aspects.

Tomorrow, Mr Murphy and his delegation are scheduled to hold official meetings at the Office of the Prime Minister and at the House of Representatives where they will meet the Speaker, Dr Anglu Farrugia.

This visit underscores the excellent ongoing cooperation between the European Court of Auditors and the Maltese National Audit Office, reinforcing their commitment to transparency and accountability, main pillars of good governance, in the use of public funds.
