Public Health Alert: AL Shalan Sella Basmati Rice Recalled Due to Mineral Oil Contamination

The Environmental Health Directorate within the Superintendence of Public Health has issued a public warning regarding the consumption of AL Shalan Sella Basmati Rice. Following information received through the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF), the product has been found to contain elevated levels of Mineral Oil Components (MOSH and MOAH) in both the rice and its packaging.

Health Risks:

Mineral Oil Aromatic Hydrocarbons (MOAH) and Mineral Oil Saturated Hydrocarbons (MOSH) are environmental contaminants that can enter food during production, through additives, or via migration from food packaging. MOAH compounds are potentially carcinogenic, while MOSH compounds can accumulate in human tissues and cause adverse health effects.
